12 Comforting Bible Verses for Depression

Depression can be so hard to deal with.  You may feel like you’re a bad person, that you’re not worth anything, that you’re a burden and would be better off dead.  But none of that is true.  The devils main tactics are lies and deceit so he is going to tell you lies to make you depressed and keep you depressed.  But we can look at the word of God and gain comfort knowing God is with us in our times of Depression and that he will get us through it.  Here is a list of some of my favorite verses to comfort me when I’m depressed.

Romans 8:38-39

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present not the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 16:33

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.

1 Peter 5:6-7

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Psalm 42:11

Why, my soul, are you downcast?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.  He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.

Psalm 34:17-18

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.  The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.

Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Psalm 37:23-24

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

God is always there right beside you.  He is there to comfort you and he loves you.  Keep these verses in mind for when you get depressed.  Write them down and memorize them so that you will be ready when the depression happens.
