1. Scrapbooking Album

This is what will hold your scrapbook pages after you have created your beautiful designs.  There are many different types of albums out there.

The most common type of scrapbook is the 12 X 12-inch album.  This size album gives you plenty of room for multiple pictures and embellishments.

There are also 8 X 8 inch and 6 X 6-inch albums that are fun to use.  There is a lot less space for these albums, but they make for an easy scrapbook.  Usually you can only fit one or two pictures per page.  I personally like the smaller albums.

2. Photos

Next on our list is photos.  Photos are an especially important part of scrapbooking.  You would not want to look through a scrapbook with only jornaling all the way through that would be boring.  But if you add pictures it makes it more interesting and helps tell the story visually.

Take an afternoon to get all your pictures together.  Collect them all and then go through them looking for themes like Christmas, Halloween, Summer Vacation, Graduation.  Organize your pictures based on what they go with.  I keep all my cruise photos in one container and then all my niece’s photos in another based off how I want to scrapbook. Knowing what pictures, you have will make it much easier when your ready to start scrapbooking.  You will be able to pick out just the right pictures for your project.

3. Scrapbook Paper

There are two different popular types of paper for scrapbooking.  The first one is card stock and the second one is patterned paper.  They both can come in sizes like 12 X 12 inch and 8.5 X 11 inch.  You can find cardstock in smaller sizes also, but I don’t usually see patterned paper in smaller sizes.  The paper is especially important because it is the foundation of your scrapbook page.

4. Adhesives

Another important item for scrapbooking is the glue.  You can use a glue stick or double-sided tape.  I tend to like to use glue dots.  There are also photo corners available which allows you to use a photo without glue on the back so you could remove it if you wanted to later.  It does not really matter which kind you choose it just needs to be acid-free to protect your scrapbook.

5. Scissors

You are going to want something to cut with.  You may want to trim photos or cut out shapes to go around your pictures and for that you need scissors.  A good pair of scissors is best.  Make sure they are sharp and easy to cut with.  You could also use a paper trimmer.  This would allow you to make cuts in a straight line making your lines look cleaner and more professional.

6. Scrapbook Embellishments

One of the most fun scrapbook supplies are embellishments.  These allow you to decorate your page and make it more of your own.  You can use things like plane tickets, concert tickets, menus, maps to make an even more personal page.  You can also use things like buttons, lace, beads, ribbons and washi tape to customize your pages.

My favorite embellishments are stickers.  If you go to a craft store and visit the scrapbooking aisles you can find nearly any kind of sticker you could want to use for any situation you want your scrapbook page to be about.

Now that you know what supplies you need you can get started.  The next thing you need to know is how to make your first scrapbook page and I will be doing a post on that coming up very soon so keep checking back or sign up for my email list to get notified when I get it written.  Thanks for reading!
